Vaccinations: protecting your litter of puppies
Vaccinations can help protect your puppies against some potentially fatal diseases, such as parvovirus, canine distemper, leptospirosis, and infectious canine viral hepatitis.
Primary course includes two vaccinations 2 – 4 weeks apart and two free health checks.
Puppies can start their vaccinations from around 7 - 8 weeks old and will need a second injection, usually 2 - 4 weeks after their first jab (but at least 10 weeks of age).
If the second dose of the primary course is missed (more than 5 weeks), your puppy may need to be given the primary two-dose course again to ensure ongoing immunity.
It’s important to keep your puppy away from unvaccinated dogs until they’ve had their full course of vaccinations and are fully protected. This is usually two weeks after the last dose of the basic vaccination scheme.
We can offer you to choose only the first vaccination from the primary course, because our practice shows that puppies go to their new homes straight after their first jab. Please note that first and second vaccination from the primary course must be from the same brand. If you choose this offer, we strongly advise you to discuss this with the new puppy owner, so they can find out what vaccine brand their chosen veterinary practice works with. If you provide us with this information we might be able to start the primary course with the brand chosen from the new pet owner, preventing possible restart in the near future.
We care for your pets, so make sure you do the same by giving them the best possible start in life and clear instructions for their new owners.
